  My Story

"From an early age, Ayesha Ahmad knew she had an eye for design. Having spent her youth in the United Arab Emirates due to her parent’s goal to expand their kid’s world round perspectives, Ayesha was exposed to a community of Immigrants coming in from all parts of the world. Most weekends were spent in the crowded and heavily saturated ‘Meena Bazaar’ market where she would accompany her mother to our family’s personal tailor. She would spend hours looking through rolls of imported fabric and help her mother come up with designs to have the tailor execute for their weekend events with family and friends. Eventually the tailor and her mother started to notice her peak interest in designing clothing that eventually one day the tailor gifted her an old dusty dress that she ecstatically took home to clean up and use. Eventually every few weeks the tailor would give her bags of fabric scraps and unwanted textiles that she began to explore with. 

Soon enough, she had embarked her journey as a Creative." 

Who Am I Now?

A Richmond, Va based Fashion Design student  with a BS in Fashion Design and Merchandising at Virginia Commonwealth University, with experience in the construction and textile design for apparel and accessories. An American born Pakistani raised abroad in the United Arab Emirates providing a strong influence of Arabic geometric architecture as well as a world round look at islamic cultural experience and design research on the Mughal empire and its historical influence on modest  fashion today. My portfolio shows my perspective through my well-adapted global upbringing and the realities of the cultural fusion that shaped my identity. It is the simple nature of what community means both locally and globally that I hope to appreciate and exhibit in my works as an artist along with opening up conversations between various communities in the east and the west.
